Swedish designer and horseman winner of pictogram competition
LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND ? Equestrian events have grown by 33 percent since 2008, with 3,200 events taking place on seven continents, says the FEI,?F?d?ration Equestre Internationale, the world governing body for horse sport.
The sport covers seven disciplines: jumping, dressage and para-dressage, eventing, driving and para-driving, endurance, reining and vaulting.
It became an Olympic sport in 1912 with three disciplines: jumping, dressage and eventing.
The FEI is marking the rapid growth by introducing seven pictograms which it and the national horse sports federations will use as their official designs for the disciplines. The art is the work of Swedish graphic designer Peder Fredricson, a Swedish Olympic jumping rider and graphic designer whose entries were selected in a competition that saw 85 entries from 17 countries.

?As a rider, I know how the pictograms should appear, the correct proportions, the connection and the movement. I?m really happy to have done this and I?m proud that my designs were chosen,? says Fredricson.
He started out in eventing, with two gold medals as a junior at the 1989 European Championships, then finished 14th in the 1992 Olympics.
He has focused on jumping since 2000, and in 2004, making his Olympic debut in Athens, he finished fourth in the individual competition and played an essential role in securing the Swedish team?s silver medal, according to the FEI.
